Grinding or also pressing with the teeth is very widespread. In many cases it is an unconscious way of dealing with stress. The technical term for this is bruxism. This bruxism can also be caused by a "false" bite.
In the long term, teeth grinding leads to damage to the tooth substance, the jaw joint, the masticatory muscles and can ultimately lead to craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD).
